Zana Zana

A word a day, in any of sixteen languages

Zana carries its own dictionary and teaches from it — on your schedule, in the language you are learning, in a private chat or in your group.

Word of the day

There are two modes. Word of the day sends one word from the language you are learning: the word, its meaning, and a real example sentence, once in that language and once in yours, with the word marked in both. Learning mode does the same for two or five words at a time, as a numbered list. Nothing to answer and nothing to open; it is reading, not a test, and no Pare changes hands.

Your pace, not ours

You choose the rhythm, every 2/4/8/16/24 hours, and the first word arrives the moment it is set up. Before each delivery the bot skips the last thirty words it sent to that chat, so nothing repeats while there is anything new left; when the list runs short it starts again from the beginning instead of going quiet. Change the rhythm or stop it whenever you like, and no chat is sent more than twenty-four of them in a day.

Sixteen languages, one dictionary

Kurdish, Turkish, Arabic, Persian, English and eleven more: 220 words in each of the sixteen languages, 3,520 entries in all, and every one of them carries its own example sentence. Because each word exists in all sixteen, the translation line always lands in the language you read in. The interface follows your language; the words follow the one you chose to learn.

Your own quiz

A group admin can also write the vocabulary themselves: pick the two languages, type the pairs, and choose 5 / 8 / 10 seconds per question. Up to 50 pairs. The questions go to each participant in a private chat, so nobody sees anybody else's answer, and the group only sees that it started and finished. Either anyone who joins takes part, or only the people the admin picks. Checking is strict — whitespace and letter case are forgiven, nothing else — and the admin can still mark an answer correct afterwards.

Wherever you already are

Its place is the group. A group admin turns it on and everyone in the room gets the same word at the same time, which is what turns a vocabulary list into something people argue about. One setup runs per group: a new one replaces the one before it, and while the bot is switched off there nothing is sent.

Not in a private chat yet. Setting it up only works inside a group, so writing to the bot alone will not start the lessons: add it to a group, or ask an admin of a group you are already in.

Free. No Pare, no subscription — learning is not something to charge for.
